Vehicle Safety Features
Compact Yet Strong

Compact Yet Strong

Compact yet strong, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV is equipped with RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body construction and greater front-end crumple zones that provide optimum driver and passenger safety. The i-MiEV’s advanced six airbag system which includes side and curtain airbags as well as the battery being mounted directly to the unibody underneath the cabin, help protect you in the event of a collision.

Active Stability (ASC) and Traction Control (TCL)

Active Stability (ASC) and Traction Control (TCL)

Every i-MiEV comes with Active Stability Control (ASC) + Traction Control (TCL), a safety feature that keeps your i-MiEV firmly on the ground whatever the driving conditions. With sensors that constantly monitor the grip on the road, ASC and TCL make subtle corrections should any slippage of the wheels occur, and help maintain control on slippery surfaces or during evasive action.

Collision Safety / High Voltage Cutoff System

Collision Safety / High Voltage Cutoff System

Because the i-MiEV has high voltage circuits connecting the Lithium-ion battery with its electric motor and other electrical components, it has been designed so that its high voltage current can be cut-off and isolated during vehicle inspection or collisions. Should an accident occur, its four sensors, located around the vehicle, determine the site and severity of the collision and if necessary automatically isolate the high voltage circuits. For added safety, the battery is set inside the vehicle rigid frame and enclosed in a metal case to protect against impact damage from any direction.

TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)

TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)

A Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is another standard safety feature on the i-MiEV. Should one or more of the vehicle’s tires become significantly under-inflated, a warning light will be displayed on the instrument panel letting you know it’s time to get pumped up. This system not only helps increase safety but will help increase tire longevity as well as improve fuel efficiency.

Pedestrian Frienldy

Pedestrian Frienldy

Because the i-MiEV runs so quietly, it features an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) that’s scientifically engineered to alert pedestrians when it’s driven at low speeds. This innovative warning system emits a sound that is pleasant and perceptible to the human ear.
