PHEV stands for Plug–in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Like hybrids, a PHEV has both an electric motor and a regular gas engine. What differentiates it from conventional hybrids is that you can plug it into an outlet or charger to recharge the battery.
The Outlander PHEV is a hybrid electric SUV that utilizes both electric and gas power. Equipped with standard Super All-Wheel Control and twin electric motors, it delivers the versatility of an SUV with the smarts and efficiency of an electric vehicle.
The Outlander PHEV is the only plug-in hybrid SUV equipped with our legendary Super All-Wheel Control. This industry-leading AWD system gives you precision handling and control on any terrain so you can take on every journey with confidence. It’s also the only plug-in hybrid SUV that offers Level 1, Level 2 and DC quick charging so recharging your vehicle's battery is easy and convenient, whether you're at home or on the go.
The system uses electric motors at the front and rear axles, for heightened efficiency and instant torque. All-electric driving is powered by the high-capacity 13.8 kWh lithium-ion main drive battery, developed specifically for the Outlander PHEV. When more power is needed, the Outlander PHEV switches to hybrid driving, utilizing an efficient 2.4L gasoline engine.
When EV mode is selected, the Outlander PHEV offers eco-friendly driving with power coming exclusively from the lithium-ion main drive battery. While running on 100% electric power, the Outlander PHEV produces zero tailpipe emissions and has a low environmental impact. If you need a bit more power, the system will automatically switch to hybrid driving, providing the extra boost you need while still delivering superior overall efficiency.
The Outlander PHEV has room for five passengers and additional space for all of your gear.
