Outlander Diamond Trail Edition Advances Momentum 2030 Strategy
The 2028 Mitsubishi Outlander Diamond Trail Edition will head a new generation of off-road-capable vehicles, bringing the brand’s heritage in design and off-road ability to a family-focused SUV designed to help explore beyond where the pavement ends. Delivering on the brand’s broader commitment to an expanded product line-up, the all-new rugged Outlander variant debuts off-road-focused bodywork, all-terrain tires, revised approach and departure angles, and a new Rock drive-mode to create the most capable Outlander ever offered.
Off-Road Confidence Inspired by Legendary Heritage
In this special Diamond Trail Edition model, the standard Outlander’s S-AWC system is given even more capability, with the addition of a Rock Mode. This setting uses enhanced brake control to quickly suppress wheel-slip and help secure traction. It activates faster than in other S-AWC modes, delivering greater confidence to the driver and helping the vehicle maintain traction.
A new screen can be displayed in the instrument cluster, showing front-wheel steering angle, individual wheel-slip and traction-control intervention. The Multi-View Camera System can also be activated and remains on up to 30 km/h, increased from 10 km/h in the standard model. Additionally, when Rock Mode is selected, Hill Descent Control is automatically activated as well, helping the driver control the vehicle speed in rocky or mogul terrain. HDC can be adjusted for the speed at which it holds the vehicle, supporting driver confidence and passenger comfort.
Rugged Design with Purpose
On the inside, an all-new seating material is finished in dark grey with khaki stitching, unique to the Diamond Trail Edition. This material repels water and is easier to clean, further supporting outdoor lifestyle adventure. Unified matte and dark tones with textured matte black, dark chrome and dark satin reinforce the Diamond Trail Edition's unique interior character. The distinctive Diamond Trail Edition logo – intended to be representative of skilled athletes on a downhill course, and playing on the motif of the brand’s Three Diamonds - is applied to the seat backs, floor mats and the door trim.
The Outlander Diamond Trail Edition debuts a new colour for the Mitsubishi Motors palette: Trail Green Metallic. It reflects the rugged outdoors with the earth tones usually associated with nature, and can be offset with a white roof. The three models on display at SEMA are finished in this colour combination.
Diamond Trail Models on Display at Mitsubishi Motors SEMA Stand
Three models of Diamond Trail will be on the Mitsubishi stand:
- One vehicle will be stock, with the addition of Mitsubishi Genuine Accessories as well as a colour-matched Thule roof box.
- One vehicle will be modified with BF Goodrich Trail Terrain T/A tires, Thule Caprock roof rack fitted with two Specialized StumpJumper 15 mountain bikes, an Anderson Design & Fabrication 1.5” lift, accessory light-pods provided by Rough Country, and hooked to a GulfStream Trail Boss 1090K trailer custom-painted to match the Outlander.
- A third vehicle will be the most extreme, with the addition of 18x8.5” Method Race Wheels 707 wheels and BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A K03 tires, a 2.5” suspension lift through Flatout Suspension’s GR Lite strut kit with adjustable spring perches, a Thule Caprock roof rack fitted with a Thule Approach 2M rooftop tent and Rough Country traction boards, and a Rough Country accessory light bar and light-pods. This is the most extreme of the Outlander Diamond Trail concepts on display.
Additional Display Vehicles at SEMA
Additional vehicles on the stand will be:
AXCR Triton – the race truck that Mitsubishi Motors’ Ralliart division entered into – and won – the FIA-certified Asia Cross-Country Rally. Ralliart has taken the top spot in this grueling international off-road event three times in five efforts.
Delica D:5 Ultimate Gear – this modified Japanese-market Delica D:5 van was shown at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon and received enthusiastic reviews from show attendees. This is the first time a current-generation Delica D:5 has been officially shown in North America
Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Trail Edition – this U.S.-market only Trail Edition of the Outlander Sport subcompact crossover (known as the RVR in Canada) will showcase a host of Mitsubishi Genuine Accessories, demonstrating how the brand’s entry-vehicle can be customized to an owner’s taste using accessories directly available through Mitsubishi Motors dealerships and added either at the time of purchase or later.
